Cherry Crop Insurance Outline



Insurable Crop and Eligibility Requirements:

  • Fresh sweet cherries that are irrigated.
  • Insured acreage must have produced  at least 4,000 lbs. per acre in one of the three previous crop years.

Insured Causes of Loss:

  • Unavoidable loss of production or damage resulting from any adverse weather conditions such as frost, hail, wind, excessive heat, or rain.
  • Wildlife, birds, earthquake and fire
  • Failure of the irrigation water supply source

Coverage Plan - Dollar Amount of Insurance:

  • Guarantee per unit is revenue not production.

Claim for Indemnity:  Cherry Dollar Plan 

  • Revenue to count is determined by total gross revenue from marketed or appraised cherries from the unit harvested and unharvested acres.
  • Subtract the cherry packing house charges for sorting, boxing, selling and shipping of marketed production.
  • Subtract $.25 per pound x net delivered pounds of cherries to packing house for picking costs.

Minimum Value per Pound:

The greater of:  Net revenue per pound from marked cherries or:

Option I cost extra 30% premium charge
Option II cost extra 50% premium charge

Insurance Period:

  • Insurance attaches for renewal on August 1.  On new policies insurance attaches 10 days after submitted , up to January 31
  • Insurance ceases the earlier of when harvest is complete or June 30

IMPORTANT:  The last day to sign up for Cherry Insurance is January 31
